Joy,

A few years ago we began hosting a winter Epiphany Party with similar
goals. The invitations offer people the opportunity to "awaken" to the
wonders of textile art. Attendance is usually around 50, and includes
appetizers and beverages, a brief talk about the museum, its history,
future plans, and the exhibition on view. We then put attendees on our
mailing list, which is otherwise restricted to members, and invite them
to the next year's party. It is through this repeat contact that we've
cultivated some new members and donors, and have recruited a couple of
very good board members.

One funny thing that happens each year is that people always comment on
the invitation. We hire a small, local graphic arts firm to design
something that will stand out and reflect the exhibition that will be
on view the evening of the event. They do a great job of creating
something that will catch the recipient's attention while keeping
within our limited budget.
