Senior Science Education Specialist
Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Arlington, Virginia
 
Minimum Qualifications:
--College degree in an Earth or space science discipline or education
--Science education expertise and/or teaching experience or related
degree/experience 
--Strong communication (spoken and written) and presentation skills
--Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well with broad range of
people
--Ability to meet deadlines
--Availability and willingness to travel (note: the amount of travel is
estimated to be 4-5 trips annually)
--Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)/Macintosh
 
Desired Qualifications:
--Masteršs degree in an Earth or space science discipline or science
education
--Excellent knowledge of national science education standards
--Knowledge of NASA education materials/activities
--Computer skills: FileMaker
 
Salary:  $50,000-$60,000, depending on qualifications and experience

Description: This position will support IGES projects with the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).  The main responsibilities of
this position are to:
 
ˇ Facilitate independent peer review panels of NASA Earth and space science
education materials, designed for formal and informal education.  The review
panels include educators and scientists. Develop and write guidelines for
product developers, provide training/instructions for reviewers, identify
and coordinate panels, write review summaries, chair panel discussions, and
compile and present results to NASA education managers.  Work with product
developers to improve NASA education materials.

ˇ Develop and deliver annual workshops for NASA educators on new Earth and
space science education products.  This includes developing and implementing
the workshop program, in coordination with NASA Earth and space science
education managers, identifying and coordinating presentations.

ˇ Coordinate distribution of NASA Earth science education materials as
related to education workshops.

ˇ Support NASA Earth science participation at national education meetings
(e.g., National Science Teachers Association, National Council of Teachers
of Mathematics, Association of Science and Technology Centers, etc).

ˇ Support other IGES projects, as requested.
