Is there anyone from Cornell (or elsewhere) who can tell us more about this?

According to Lu Harper:
..
. This is not archival per se, but the Preservation dep't at Cornell has
. done quite interesting work scanning brittle books and then making them
. digitally available as slow Quicktime "movies." No reason archival
. materials couldn't be handled the same way. I think the court is still
. out on the long-term durability, and possibly cost benefits, however.
