The HARVARD UNIVERSITY ART MUSEUMS seek an Editor for the Archaeological
Exploration of Sardis. The Archaeological Exploration of Sardis, founded in
1958 to pursue archaeological research at the site of Sardis in western
Turkey, is jointly sponsored by the Harvard University Art Museums, Cornell
University, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the American Schools of
Oriental Research. Most of the Expedition's records are housed at Harvard,
which serves as the administrative headquarters for the Expedition, as well
as a center for research and publication. In addition to the editor,
full-time staff in the Harvard office include an associate director, staff
assistant and editorial/research assistant. Part-time staff include an
archaeological illustrator and archival assistant, with additional support
provided by Harvard students.

The position of Editor requires the following education, experience, and
skills: M.A. in Greek and Roman art/archaeology or related field; 3-5 years
experience in academic publishing; proficiency in one or more
word-processing programs (i.e. WordPerfect for Windows); experience with
scanning and computer-assisted layout; demonstrated organizational,
interpersonal, and administrative skills; ability to work with a wide range
of specialists; working knowledge of French and German.

Duties and Responsibilities include: Primarily responsible for initiating,
coordinating, editing, and managing the production of monographs in the
Sardis series, which covers a broad chronological range (12 volumes to
date). Prepares and monitors publication budgets and forecasts; responds to
questions from authors and provides them with necessary information or
materials; participates in certain fund-raising and grant-writing
activities; handles correspondence with authors, reviewers, and printers;
hires and supervises relevant publications personnel. Reports to the
associate director at the Harvard office and to the Sardis publications
committee, of which the editor is a member. Note: This is a three-year
appointment, with the possibility of renewal.

Note: The Expedition office is located on the fourth floor of a walk-up
building at 7 Sumner Road, Cambridge; it is not equipped with an elevator
or facilities for the physically disabled. AA/EEO.
