I must say first this is an excellant subject! Maybe this list could pair some people up!
Secondaly, mentors are needed in EVERY field. Historic Preservation is one, Architecture - having a mentor is recommended so many times in so may ways, but there is no where to go to find one - many times you just have to get lucky!

I have have great instuctors in my 5 years of college, 1 at the jr. college level who encouraged me to keep my eyes set on my goals (hist pres vs modern arch), 1 at the university level, who although a history professor ( I had him for one class) , encouraged me in my goals and wrote the most wonderful letter of rec for me to apply to a grad program. I hope to find the same thing in my new grad program.

But finding a professional mentor (even long distance) has not happened.

So maybe this list can be a way to at least pair people up by email. As always, caution must be taken - but what would it hurt to try?
