I should say that we haven't been having trouble getting stuff to stay stuck to the wall.  We've been having trouble getting stuff to stay stuck to the foam core for any length of time.  Including, oddly enough, the adhesive on velcro.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  This gives me several options to pursue.
