There is not much compromise in getting a canon 5d mkII.  We have started
using them to shoot part of Feature movies and its plenty good enough for
publication purposes up to 16x20 prints.   The Camera cost less then $2k and
uses standard Canon lenses.   If you already have existing Nikon equipment
then just look at the nikon pro cameras that are in the same price range.
There pretty much is no compromise I can see for a museum with these
cameras.
