The University of Victoria's new five-course Cultural Heritage Sector Leadership Program, leading to a Professional Specialization Certificate, is pleased to announce that Gail Anderson and Diana Smith will be facilitating the three-day introductory
workshop entitled "Challenges in Cultural Heritage Sector Leadership" from December 6 - 8 (note that this has been rescheduled from November 22 -24).

Gail, a highly respected museum consultant with a distinguished professional background in museum management and leadership (http://www.museumgroup.com/Anderson/index.html), will lead the sessions in which participants focus on the range of museum and heritage leadership issues confronting the sector. These sessions provide a foundation for subsequent management and leadership studies and build participants' understanding of the challenges and opportunities that they will encounter as they develop their careers. Gail is the editor of the recently published anthology, Reinventing the Museum, from AltaMira Press.

Diana, an adjunct Associate Professor in UVic's School of Public Administration, with thirty years experience in consulting, leadership and management in public, non-profit and private organizations at the local, national and international level, will lead the sessions that focus on identifying participants' leadership capacity and learning styles and goals, as well as those that focus on integrating subsequent studies with
work-related issues/assignments.

This introductory workshop sets the stage for the three distance education courses from the School of Public Administration that are core to the Professional Specialization Certificate Program: "Leading and Managing in the
Non-Profit Sector" (January - April 2005); Program Evaluation and Performance Management (September - December 2005) and "Strategic Planning and Project Management" (January - April 2006). As well, participants are asked to take a Cultural Resource Management course or a Public Administration course as an elective to complete the Certificate. This new program integrates museum and cultural heritage issues, resources, and assignments throughout to build participants' capacity to lead and manage contemporary cultural heritage institutions.

As the workshop dates have been moved to December, we are able to extend the application deadline for this innovative program to early November. If you are interested in joining the diverse group of museum and heritage professionals, please visit our website at http://www.uvcs.uvic.ca/crmp/chsl.cfm# and let us know if you have questions! Best wishes,
