SPECIAL EVENTS/VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR


NATURE OF WORK IN THIS CLASS
        This is a full-time position responsible for managing  special
events, workshops, lectures, and public programs of the Hayes Presidential
Center. In addition the person in this position will be expected to
recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for the Center. The employee
reports to the Director of Development as well as the Director of  the
Hayes Presidential Center.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
        Responsible for special events programming, including the handling of all
administrative details prior to and following each event, including
confirmations, contracts, invoices, set-up sheets, volunteer requests and
attendance and revenue reports (all contracts or other obligations over
$500 gross will be reviewed and signed by the director).
        Works with other departments on the planning and development of Hayes
Presidential Center special events. Responsible for the supervision of
support personnel for events, including maintenance, interpreters, etc.
        Interview, assign, train, supervise, and evaluate volunteers; develop
in-service programming for volunteers.
        Researches leisure and entertainment activities and ensures historical
authenticity in every aspect of the program.
        Supervises bulk mailings.
        Researches and directs events of the Victorian Guild.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
        A basic knowledge of mid-nineteenth to early twentieth century Ohio
history and U.S. History.
        Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
        Ability to plan, organize and work with details.
        Ability to work with a variety of people.
        Ability to coordinate several activities and people simultaneously.
        Ability to work both independently and as a team player.
        Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and
holidays.
        Must be computer literate and able to input information from the keyboard.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
        Requires frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and kneeling.
        Requires full range of eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
        Requires normal eye sight and hearing.
        Requires some lifting of heavy objects, up to 50 pounds.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
        Activities will take place indoors and outdoors and in varying weather
conditions.
        The individual may be required to assume period appearance by the wearing
of a costume supplied by administration.
        The position can be very fast paced with many things occurring at once,
can be stressful.

QUALIFICATIONS
        An employee in this position should be creative, have experience in
interpretation, working with volunteers, and setting up public programs, as
well as a demonstrated ability to perform the tasks required by the
position. A bachelor's degree, or the equivalent, and two years of museum
and/or public events experience is preferred.

COMPENSATION
$11.54 TO $13.94 per hour and excellent benefits.
