Re: deaccessioning

There is a great chapter on this subject in "A Legal Primer on Managing
Museum Collections" (2nd edition, 1998) by Marie C. Malaro. It is
published by the Smithsonian Institution Press and is available through the
AAM bookstore. The quick and dirty answer from both AAM and AASLH is that
proceeds may only be used for care of collections and acquistions of
collections. All museums should incorporate this kind of language into
their "Code of Ethics."
