For long term vibration effects on a historic structure and its
frescoes/stucco work, a search for material on the Villa Farnesina
(constructed by Baldassare Peruzzi, 1509-11, in Rome on the banks of the
Tiber for Agostino Chigi, with frescoes by Raphael, Peruzzi, del Piombo,
Sodoma and Giulio Romano) might yield something. I have been told that an
underground system intended to shield the palazzo from the constant
vibrations of the nearby street along the Tiber was installed, but proved
less effective as the system itself aged. I would be very happy to hear
whether, or not this is true, and have documented details, if you find them.
In any case, please do keep the rest of us abreast of your research which
will be useful to many, I'm sure.
