Job Description

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Exhibition Design & Preparator is primarily responsible for designing all special exhibitions and for specific installations. Serves as a member of exhibition design team; works with curators, registrars, conservators, marketing, and education in planning all upcoming exhibitions. Researches ideas and materials, recommends solutions for design problems, and utilizes design techniques to produce desired visual effects and educational messages. Assists with proper gallery and exhibition maintenance and repair in all venues. Uses computer aided design software to create pre-plan based on object specifications and available space. Designs and produces exhibition/display graphics. Effectively communicates designs and oversees design fabrication/work of exhibition components. Assists in moving and handling traveling exhibition collections, installing exhibition and lighting to include painting walls and pedestals as needed for all venues and gallery spaces. Assists with packing and crating works of art. Assists with production of exhibit labels/didactics. Mats and frames works of art. Assists with collection maintenance, including gallery lighting, general gallery maintenance. Assists with movement of artwork and objects, and building display cases, pedestals, and plinths. Constructs and dismantles temporary walls/partitions for exhibitions. Uses motorized vehicles to fulfill job duties.

Job Requirements
High school diploma/equivalent and at least one year of experience. Strong computer skills, including: knowledge of Photoshop, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), or an equivalent design program. Knowledge of exhibit displays, display design, and installation. Ability to use power tools and hand tools. Ability to meet the physical requirements as determined by position, to include the ability to climb ladders, and lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; meet project deadlines; and prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Position requires a valid driver's license.
