Our museum switched to outreach programming "off-site" after our
building was damaged by Hurricane Katrina. For the last 3 years with no
museum, we continued with our existing traveling trunk program and
adapted our on-site programs for classrooms. We developed programs with
touch objects and PowerPoint presentations, activities, and evaluations
for each. Our museum is a state museum, and we were always free of
charge which continues. We had a publication that we sent out each year
to all the social studies teachers in the state that outlined all of our
museum programing which we adapted to an outreach program publication.
We booked our programs and traveled to classrooms and even adult groups
across the state.
