The Archaeology Department, University of Calgary, Alberta operates a
spring and summer Archaeology Field School which is excavating prehistoric
Plains Indian sites and a historic site at Fish Creek Park, Canada's
largest urban park. This year, in conjunction with its Field Schools, the
Department is offering Applied Museology. Students will work at the Fish
Creek Visitor Centre under supervision of the instructor, processing
artifacts recovered from excavations by the field school, providing initial
conservation treatments, researching and planning new exhibits, and working
on and implementing public programs. The Visitor Centre receives thousands
of visitors during the summer and students may expect a strong "hands-on"
experience in public interpretation and education. This half-credit course
will run from June 7 - June 27, 2000. Cost is $431 Cdn.
Further information may be obtained by contacting the Department by email
