I was contacted by Steve Wagner, the dentist in the Smithsonian article who
collaborated with the anthropologist to create the audio described dinosaur
model. He is very interested in working with museums to use his modeling
skills to welcome visitors with visual impairments. If you are interested
in creating touchable models, you may want to contact him. Please contact
me off-list if you would like his contact information.

Subject: visually impaired visitors

There is an article in the May issue of Smithsonian Magazine that may be of
interest. It is primarily about a blind anthropologist, but at the end it
describes a hands-on model with a recorded button-activated guide she helped
create for a dinosaur exhibit. Not only was it a big hit among visually
impaired children, but a sighted boy closed his eyes and tried it out as
well.
