You should talk with Eleanor Rubin, Coordinator of Access for Audiences with
Disabilities at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She sent me a brochure
describing their programs (and it has Braille on the cover). The MFA does
give a tour where visitors with visual impairments are encouraged to touch
selected sculptures.

On the ASTC website there is a page that describes access guides (brochures
and/or web pages that describe accessibility services at an institution)
http://www.astc.org/resource/access/guidtips.htm. At the end of this web
page is a linked list to examples of access guides. There is also
information on who to contact for copies of the guides. Several of the
access guides listed mention programming and accommodations for people with
visual impairments.

Subject: visually impaired visitors

I wondered if there were any museums who have a policy set up for visually
impaired visitors.
What kind of programming do you provide at your museum for the visually
impaired?
What opportunities are available to visitors of your museum who are
visually impaired?
Do you provide special touch tours?
What kinds of objects in your collection are permitted to be touched?
Is their a special museum out there that deals with only visually impaired
visitors?

Thank you.

Adrienne
