The internship will provide educational opportunities for undergraduate and
graduate students in cataloging, research, and basic principles of
conservation through hands-on work in the archives of the historic Rosen
House and through collaborations with consulting architectural historians,
historic home experts, conservators and archivists.

*Caramoor:* Established in 1946, Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is a
cultural non-profit organization which presents over 70 music performances
each year, mentors the next generation of classical musicians, and provides
arts-in-education opportunities for area schoolchildren. Located an hour
north of New York City, the Caramoor estate consists of 90 acres of gardens
and rolling parklands.

*Rosen House:* The centerpiece of Caramoor is a Mediterranean Revival villa
designed in the 1930s by architect Christian F. Rosborg, which is notable
for its 18 European period rooms, some of which were imported from European
villas and palaces, as well as a wide-ranging collection of 15th- to
18th-century
furniture and European and Asian art objects. The Rosen House was the summer
home of Lucie and Walter Rosen, Caramoor's founders, who were avid
collectors as well as patrons of the arts. Their home was a center for
intellectual discussion and artistic expression and their circle included
photographer Arnold Genthe, early electronic music inventor Leon Theremin,
sculptor Malvina Hoffman, composers John Haussermann and Ernest Bloch,
photographer and designer Cecil Beaton, and director Max Reinhardt, among
others.

*Archives:* The Rosens purchased the property in 1938 with plans to build an
elaborate palazzo on the hill. They started first by constructing, on one
side of the property, a farm complex complete with stables and greenhouse,
but soon after the 1929 crash decided to scale down and to convert the farm
complex into their country home.

The extensive archival material pertaining to the construction of the farm
complex and it's conversion to the Rosen House consists of correspondence,
architectural plans and drawings, specification books as well as photographs
of when it was first a farm complex and later the residence as it is today.

*Compensation/accommodation:* Caramoor will provide a modest stipend. In
addition, during much of the year on-site accommodation is available.

*Schedule: * Please contact Merceds Santos-Miller, Rosen House Manager, for
details.
