Four or five years ago the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe,
NM showed a collage by Alma Lopez depicting "Mary in a midriff-baring,
two-piece outfit covered with flowers. Mary stands barefoot, with arms
akimbo and chin up in a pose that could be interpreted as a defiant stance
." There were some people who had a problem with it, as you can imagine.
