In addition to missing out on opportunities to cultivate interest in and educate young people (who, as it has been pointed out are our eventual patrons, donors, etc.), you also miss out on revenue.  School group, pre-school and after-school programming can drive a significant number of children - and money - through your doors.  Of course, these programs must be developed with state educational standards and community needs in mind, but if developed and marketed correctly they can be hugely successful.
