    After reading the responses you received about this object I sent the link to my father who has been in the food service equipment business a LOOONG time.  His response:


Ed: I think it is a hide roller. A tool similar was used to flatten animal hides or get the moisture out, like in whale skin. I saw something like this in a museum in Hawaii once. I'd check with others. I have been wrong before.
