Subject: Re: [MUSEUM-L] making labels- alternative to aerosol spray

For temporary labels, I just use a heavy cardstock, pre-cut to standard
size before printing, use poster putty, and forgo the mat altogether.
For long-term labels, we order sheets of clear printable labels from our
local printer, which we can just run through the laser here at the
office, then trim and roll onto card-stock. I am sorry to say I have no
idea what this clear, printable, adhesive sheet is actually *called*, as
I just call my contact there and say "I need a half a ream of the clear
sticky stuff." The clear sticky stuff is not inexpensive, but it saves
time and mess, and eliminates the need for adhesive. It might be .50 a
sheet or so. The labels tend to come out of the laser a bit curly from
heat, so you have to flatten them, and let them rest a little while to
give the ink time to cool and adhere. We also have to replace the ones
that people tend to touch about once annually, as lots of touching will
rub the ink off the surface.

Good morning!

Does anybody have suggestions for making in-house labels? Right now we
use cardstock adhered to mat board with an aerosol adhesive spray which
is then cut to size using a mat cutter. I'm hoping to find an
alternative to using the aerosol spray. Any suggestions or ideas are
greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
