AASLH, in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, will be hosting two workshops for historic house museum staff and volunteers during the month of April.  Registration is now open.  Space is limited.  Sign up by the end of March to receive early bird discount and guarantee a seat. 

April 26-27 - Historic House Museums Issues and Operations at Adams National Historical Park in Quincy, MA. This two-day workshop offers an intensive look at the management and interpretation of historic houses taught by George McDaniel, director of Drayton Hall and Max van Balgooy, Director of Education and Interpretation for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Topics to be covered include:

  d.. Historical Research & Content Development
  e.. Site and Collections Care

April 30 - Creating Successful Interpretive Plans, a new one-day advanced workshop for historic house museums, will be held on Monday, April 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Oak Park Public Library in Oak Park, Illinois (ten miles west of Chicago). The workshop will be co-taught by Tim Merriman and Lisa Brochu of the National Association for Interpretation (NAI). 

This advanced workshop, sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, American Association for State and Local History, and Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust and funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities, is specifically designed for educators, interpreters, curators, program directors, and other staff and volunteers responsible for the content and management of tours at historic house museums, historic sites, districts, or heritage areas who have at least 2-4 years experience in educational programming or site interpretation.

Cost: $150 per person ($130 for members of AASLH and NT Forum) and includes the 166-page bestselling book, Interpretive Planning: The 5-M Model for Successful Planning Projects (interpPress, 2003). Attendance is limited. Register by April 1 to guarantee a seat.
