MPMA Workshop: Oral History 
Participants will review the oral history process from  planning through 
preservation. Discussions focus on replicable,  collaborative steps to 
document community histories and connect them to  larger interpretive themes. 
Strategies for involving communities, finding  funding, and building networks 
will be explored.  The presenters are VERY well known in the Oral History field 
 and are well published.  This is a  special opportunity.

This  workshop is different from your usual disaster workshop.  It is NOT 
about  writing a disaster plan. Participants will instead learn much more, 
including  the disaster management cycle, what steps to take beyond 
institutional  preparedness, getting to know your local first responders before a 
disaster  occurs and about paper conservation after a flood disaster. 
This  is a two-part workshop. 
Part I: Learn about the disaster management cycle  and what to be prepared 
for before a disaster occurs. Part II: Hands on  session to learn about 
paper  
and  book salvage techniques and materials.

W4   Exhibit Design A-Z
Learn  how to recognize the pivotal points in exhibit  development where  
decisions are made that affect the outcomes of your exhibit.  We will

identify pivotal decision points and learn how to use the  design  process to 
achieve their project goals and remain on time  and  within budget.

W5  Audio in the Digital Age 
Digital  audio is firmly entrenched in our personal, social, and work 
lives.  Information professionals hold a unique responsibility to understand, 
record,  and maintain the integrity of digital audio files for future 
generations. This  workshop
presents the basic structure and understanding of digital audio  and 
strategies to plan and implement a digital audio program. This workshop  will 
cover: 1) basic understanding of digital audio files, 2) computer and  equipment 
options for a born--digital project, 3) strategies for analog- to-  digital 
projects, and 4) the capture of structural and descriptive  metadata.

W6  Hands-On History: Elevating Active Learning 
Hands-on  activities in history museums are appealing and fun for audiences 
of all ages.  This workshop discusses the theory behind hands-on 
experiences. Attendees will  see and use examples of hands-on activities and learn how 
to develop their own  active learning programs. Attendees will use hands-on 
elements from the  galleries, programs and classes of the three presenting 
museums and learn how  to develop low-cost hands-on elements for their own 
institutions. The workshop  will cover how pop culture can be used to teach 
in a hands-on  setting.
