Our museum is running into problems with shipping insurance. We are an
all-ceramic museum. Some of the carriers (UPS, Fed Ex, DHL, etc.) do not
insure ceramics and if one can get insurance at all, through the shipper or
a third party, the limit is $1,000 at most. Cost of shipping insurance
through our major provider (who insures our collection) is out of sight.
When dealing with collectors or other institutions we do use an art shipping
company and do carry insurance, but with contemporary artists we would like
to develop an at-your-risk policy. This plan may sound unprofessional, but
it is reality. Help! Please share how your institution handles shipping
policy in reference to insurance. Thank you.
