How about a lid lock like they use to prevent kids from climbing in real
ones

Jennifer,

Once you scoop up whatever you can (wearing medical gloves) then I would
steam clean it (perfect for hard surface cleaning and disinfection). Wipe it
down with lysol wipes and repeat until clean.

There should be a way of securing the lid down or putting something on top
to make it obvious it is not in use.

Cheers!

I just discovered this morning that someone used one of the display
bathrooms in our historic house, rather than the public restroom.
(Fortunately it was a "number one"!) Control and security issues aside, does
anyone have any suggestions for cleaning it? It's a 1940s-era porcelain
toilet that has had the water disconnected from it for at least 20-30 years.

Unfortunately, it looks like we will have to make a sign for it to prevent
this from happening again.
