Department Manager, Educational Partnerships and Outreach
Responsible for the management of the Educational Partnerships and Outreach Department, which includes the Creative Learning Factory (museum professionals and teacher professional development) National History Day in Ohio, the Museum in a Box program, the Ohio as America online textbook, distance learning content development, and partnerships with other statewide educational and history organizations, including the Ohio Department of Education and Board of Regents. The position develops potential revenue projects and seeks grant funding from various local, state, and national organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

*         Provides strategic direction for programs in the department.

*         Develops programs in partnership with statewide history and education organizations.

*         Develops and supports advisory groups and staff work teams; regularly communicates with school administrators, Ohio Department of Education, teachers, students, parents, legislators, and others for the purpose of increasing use of OHS programs and resources.

*         Serves as a Society liaison to major educational organizations across the state, including educational partnership institutions.

*         Confers and consults with individuals, groups, and organizations to determine school and teacher program needs and strategies.

*         Plans, implements, and extends OHS professional development and outreach services to teachers in cooperation with other interpretive programming and exhibition initiatives.

*         Develops programs in partnership with K-12 schools and Ohio colleges and universities.

*         Assesses current distance learning offerings and develops new distance learning programs.

*         Provides guidance and oversight for partnership agreements with the Ohio Council for Social Studies, the Buckeye Council for History Education and Ohio Academy of History.

*         Prepares grant and sponsorship proposals and other requests for program and/or planning funding.

*         Manages department budget, program budgets, and project expenditures on a routine basis.

*         Participates in other professional organizations in the field of history and social studies education.

*         Manages the staff of the Educational Partnerships and Outreach Department on a day-to-day basis, including employee assessment and monitoring progress on projects.

*         Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervision of Coordinator, Ohio History Day; multiple education program managers, staff, and volunteers.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience:
Master's degree in education, history, or other humanities or equivalent work experience plus a minimum of five years of experience in program management and/or working with partnerships and different stakeholder groups. Grant writing experience, experience with state education standards, experience managing multiple professional staff.
Certificates or Licensures:
Must have a valid driver's license
Language Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively, and in a timely manner, with diverse audiences having differing levels of knowledge.
Mathematical Skills:
Requires budget preparation and monitoring skills.
Technical Skills:
Experience with MS Office and database management.
Reasoning Ability:
An ability to manage multiple tasks, responsibilities and projects.
Work Environment
Normal office environment. Days, hours and locations of work may vary to accommodate specific program and participant needs, and will include weekend and evening work. Willingness to undertake substantial in-state and limited out-of-state travel with overnights. Work may be stressful at times as it involves frequent contact with staff, school administrators, teachers, students, and the public.
