About Hillwood
Founded by American collector and heiress to the Post cereal empire Marjorie Merriweather Post, Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens is one of the premier art collector's museums in the United States. The museum features the most comprehensive collection of Russian imperial art outside of Russia and a world-renowned collection of eighteenth-century French decorative art and furnishings. The collection contains significant holdings in the areas of furniture, porcelain, textiles, metalwork and paintings including Fabergé eggs, Russian porcelain, Russian Orthodox icons, Beauvais tapestries, and Sèvres. Other collections include costumes and material culture artifacts and memorabilia related to Mrs. Post.

Internship Tasks
The collections intern will work with the Registrar to:

·         Accession and catalog the museum's material culture collection in anticipation of a new exhibition. Provides an opportunity to work hands on with the collection. Tasks including accessioning, object marking, photography, cataloging, condition reporting, re-housing, and database entry.

·         Assist in the conversion to a new database including data entry and cleanup, and working with curators to improve cataloging standards and data.

·         Assist in the day to day tasks of the registrar's office as needed.

·         Potential to assist in the installation of an exhibition opening in June and in other aspects of the museum's active loans and exhibitions programs.
Experience/Skills
Candidates should be currently enrolled in or should have recently finished a museum-related graduate program, and possess an interest in collections/registration work. Previous experience with databases and object handling are a plus. Coursework in collections management a plus.
Duration/Pay
Internships are part-time up to 4 days per week. This internship position is for college credit only.
