The Heartland Heritage Center is a new museum and conference center located in
Perry, Iowa. We are building a historical database that will be used to
develop the exhibitions, educational programming, and research efforts. There
are several paid intern opportunities to help document the economic, social,
and architectural histories of the town, as well as to get in on the ground
floor of a new institution.

Interns will work with the HHC Director of Research and exhibition development
team to gather and organize information in the following areas:

Historic Architecture / Urban Planning
Conduct a building survey by researching title and tax records, field
observations, and photography. Intern will record and cross reference building
types, architectural styles, and locations. In order to map the changing
pattern of the built environment, intern will plot the structures surveyed on
digital map.

 Social
Document demographic changes of the community by recording immigration
patterns, household size and composition, race, religion, and the resulting
changes in institutions, such as schools and churches, and the economy. Work
to link social research to the building survey.

Database Manager
Set up and manage retrievable multimedia database, such as File Maker Pro.
Intern will work with other interns to input and cross reference findings,
including photographs.
