The Heartland Heritage Center is a new museum and conference center located in Perry, Iowa. We are building a historical database that will be used to develop the exhibitions, educational programming, and research efforts. There are several paid intern opportunities to help document the economic, social, and architectural histories of the town, as well as to get in on the ground floor of a new institution. Interns will work with the HHC Director of Research and exhibition development team to gather and organize information in the following areas: Historic Architecture / Urban Planning Conduct a building survey by researching title and tax records, field observations, and photography. Intern will record and cross reference building types, architectural styles, and locations. In order to map the changing pattern of the built environment, intern will plot the structures surveyed on digital map. Social Document demographic changes of the community by recording immigration patterns, household size and composition, race, religion, and the resulting changes in institutions, such as schools and churches, and the economy. Work to link social research to the building survey. Database Manager Set up and manage retrievable multimedia database, such as File Maker Pro.
