To All,

I posted a question early in November about a paper I'm writing for graduate
school (Tufts University). It regards changing perceptions of political
correctness, morality, appropriateness, etc., and what a museum does in the
face of these re: its collections use and management. My example was a
museum that might have a doll in the "mammy" or "Sambo" style--does the
museum use these items, despite their offensiveness? If so, why? Who makes
the decision? How much does public opinion play a part?

My original question received a few helpful answers but then discussion
diverged into a more Native American/NAGPRA direction which, while
interesting and important, is not the focus of my research.

If anyone currently has items in their collection that deal with this issue
or have dealt with this issue in the past and could provide me with general
information and anecdotes, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks so much,
Anne Doss
