MS 269: VisitorMotivations for Selecting Programs March 4 to 30, 2024 

 While working as a seasonal interpreter withOhio State Parks and completing research for his M.S. in interpretation degree(1978) John spent two years evaluating park visitor's motivations for selectingand/or attending interpretive programs offered at Mohican State Park.  The results from the research resulting instartling results as to what visitors wanted vs. what interpretive topics wereoffered.  This course will help you doyour own research into visitor studies whichcan help you increase program attendance and general visitation satisfaction.  A copyof John’s M.S. Thesis will be provided to course participants.

MS 271: Training for Interpretive Trainers May 6to 31, 2024  

 Teaching interpretiveprinciples, techniques and practices to new or seasonal staff or docents is a real skill requiring providing lots of “hands on learning experiences” for participants.  Based on 30 years of teaching interpretationtraining courses, and teaching interpretation at Michigan State University and TheOhio State University, John will share with course participants lots of exercises andtechniques for teaching interpretation to others.  A copy of John’s textbook on teaching interpretation to others willbe provided as well as copies of interpretive training manuals used by John inhis many interpretive training courses world-wide.
