PART-TIME Visitor Services and Marketing Coordinator Position

The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian is one of only a handful of
museums across the country that focuses exclusively on the art, history and
culture of American Indian and First Nations peoples of the United States
and Canada. Work with a small, dynamic staff in a great location: voted one
of the nation’s top ten neighborhoods.

 

Job Description:  To develop and manage the museum’s marketing materials,
provide and ensure excellent customer service to the museum’s constituents,
oversee admissions desk and museum shop sales, lead group tours through
museum, coordinate assigned programs and events, and supervise volunteers
and docents.

 

Reports to:  Executive Director

 

Job Duties:

Ø  Provide excellent customer service and promote the museum mission and
vision in all activities, work to fulfill the museum’s operating and
strategic goals, and represent museum both within and outside the building.

Ø  Open and close building for the public hours, programs, and events and
monitor museum security.

Ø  Manage the admission desk and museum store, answer and route telephone
calls, route mail and general e-mail to museum staff. Record and tabulate
attendance and demographic records. 

Ø  Schedule docents, tours, and space rentals, assemble craft materials and
set-up for programs and events, lead or assist with tours, crafts, and
programs as needed.

Ø  Coordinate with Director marketing and evaluation plan and maintain
active calendar for marketing deadlines, and work plan. Manage distribution
of marketing materials to outside media, on other websites, and venues.

Ø  Develop marketing, evaluation, and membership materials, e-blasts,
flyers, invitations, general event postcards, surveys and newsletters. Use
Microsoft mail merge to generate and process mailings.

Ø  Assist producing fundraising materials such as graphic design of Annual
Report, invitations, and sponsorship materials, and processing mailing. 

Ø  Maintain Constant Contact database and send e-blasts and e-newsletters,
post entries and manage Facebook, manage and update museum’s website using
Contribute software, and maintain museum calendar for public and internal
events on Google calendar and other websites.

Ø  Assist in facilities maintenance, order office and maintenance supplies,
prep for cleaning service and manage cleanliness between cleanings, notify
Director of maintenance issues and assist coordinating contractors.

Ø  Manage team of volunteers and docents to assist with these duties

Ø  And other duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

§  Ability to quickly learn and perform all duties with accuracy and
efficiency

§  Experience in customer service and prioritizing multiple tasks to meet
deadlines

§  Experience providing tours and/or public presentations to various age
groups

§  Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing

§  Demonstration of design experience and creative graphic design skills

§  Proficiency in operating Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly
learn new programs

§  Ability to lift and arrange equipment and furniture 

§  Willingness to work independently and as a team

§  Must demonstrate respect of American Indian culture 

§  Knowledge of Native American history preferred but not required

§  Ability to cover shifts during museum’s open hours and special events:
Tuesday:  9:30-5:30; Wednesday:  9:30-5:30; Thursday: 9:30-2:30; Thursday:
12:30-8:30; Friday:  9:30-5:30; Sunday:  11:30-4:30 plus special events.
Time slots are split between two part-time positions and subject to change
but this position must be available for the Thursday 12:30-8:30 and/or
Sunday 11:30-4:30.
