thanks for clarity. my point exactly that even at $26. each it is still uncommon that common material would sell within such a short period of time.

as you stated they certainly would have to be "industry-specific, and command a very high price tag new" to achieve such results.

  $13000/500 = $26

In this case, many of the volumes were industry-specific and command a very high price tag new. (Many of the books had been issued to me by a former employer who did not want them back, or given to me by clients.) None of them would be considered "rare" or "collectible" in the generally understood meanings of those terms. When I listed them online, I undercut the "new" price by a couple of dollars, and stayed within Amazon's shipping allowance. I did not get new prices for most of these books. However, my goal was to clean out office bookcases to make room for the volumes of a new career. What I made on these otherwise unwanted books was certainly better than putting them out at a yard sale. And I cannot throw books away - just can't do it! J

As I stated in my previous post - you won't get this kind of return on romance novels and over-produced top 100 "best sellers." But, if in the donated books, there are industry specific books, textbooks, etc. it may be worth listing online.

I was absolutely amazed by the prices that some of these soon-to-be-useless volumes commanded. I sold almost 500 volumes in less than 3 months, and made over $13,000.00!

congratulations on your success on selling these "soon-to-be-useless volumes" online but it must be made perfectly clear (and this is from one who has a very large private library, and has bought and sold many 'collectable' and rare books on and offline) that to make $13, 000. USD on 500 listings in less than three months? is a rare circumstance - unless what is listed is drastically underpriced to begin with - the figures quoted, and the lack of information regarding listing and shipping and handling expenses involved, should be fully understood prior to going down the road of listing online.
