*DEVELOPMENT OFFICER – Hoboken Historical Museum*
*ABOUT THE MUSEUM:*
The Hoboken Historical Museum (HHM) collects and displays artifacts on
Hoboken history and is a de facto community center, offering educational
programs, family days, lectures, tours, films and other events. The HHM's
mission is to advance the understanding and exploration of Hoboken history,

*POSITION DESCRIPTION:*
The Development Officer is a member of HHM’s leadership team and will
report to the Executive Director and the board of trustees. S/he will be
responsible for the strategic planning, management and implementation of
HHM’s various fund development streams. The ideal candidate will be
proactive, flexible, a team player, able to work in a dynamic setting and
capable of managing their work load. A strong preference for a qualified
local candidate who is knowledgeable about Hoboken, New Jersey.
*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:*

Maintain timely and consistent contact with donors and potential donors
in order to
establish, sustain and enhance relationships leading to initial and
repeated gifts.

Develop specific stewardship plan for current major donors.

Develop annual corporate sponsorship plan for Museum’s many events
throughout the year, including annual gala, House Tour, Garden Tour and
Baby Parade.

Develop annual fund plan for 2-4 mailings per year, including an
end-of-year appeal.

Work with volunteer fundraising committee to identify new targets never
yet approached by Museum.

Work with board of trustees to educate them on fundraising.

Secure new funding sources, especially corporate, government and
foundation funders.

Database management plus preparation of reports in a timely manner.
*QUALIFICATIONS:*
-
At least six years of progressive fundraising experience, preferably in
cultural/historical institution setting with a background raising funds
from various categories. (HHM has a diversified fund development
portfolio with substantial revenues from all categories—corporate,
foundation, government, individual and special events.)

Grant writing/management skills.

Strong relationship skills, including working with board members,
volunteers and the general community.

Experience in fundraising in and for a museum is preferred. Ability to
work evenings and weekends.

This is a 20-hour per week contract position without benefits.
