Just a suggestion: If you have a Natural History, Children's Museum, or other appropriate type of institution, you may wish to put up something where children can sign or blog their thoughts. Irwin's work was well known (and admired) by many, especially children (and in particular young boys and gutsy girls). Children need support in identifying and communicating their thoughts on his death.
When I called my 10-year old grandson yesterday to talk about his school supply list (one of Grandma's many regular duties), he was quite upset about it and wanted to speak to the issue. He had many of the facts, but I was able to tell him that the ray normally only attacks if it is frightened, and that it is not usually fatal, that this was an anomally because the barb was able to get under the rib cage and into the heart.
He/we enjoy "petting" the rays (two fingers, only, let the ray come to you) at the Aquarium of the Pacific, and I reminded him of how lovely they were and how the barbs are removed at the aquarium so that we can show them our appreciation.
Anyway, it's just a suggestion. If you do something on butcher paper or heavy card stock, or a blog, you could possibly make the info available for the Aussie Zoo (founded by Steve's parents and run by Steve and Terri).
