Hi Erica!

Not from the perspective of a professional registrar or
conservator, but as a fellow who helped document a large
(2,000+ artworks), important private art collection with a
digital camera, I'd say:

(1) ensure the digital images are stored on CD-ROMs (two or
three copies) which are guaranteed to last quite a long
time; and,

(2) if possible (affordable, physical space, etc.) print
images on high photo-quality paper with an inkjet (or color
laser printer), stored in acid-free album sleeves.
