Dear Mr Haberstich,

Further to my Museum-L posting, I appreciate your contribution to the
discussion of copyright. I am quite familiar with copyright law (as much as
is possible for one who is not a lawyer and as much as is possible when the
very laws themselves are continually changed. Even Supreme Court judgements
are inconclusive as the written decisions are to be no precedent). When I
said "if" an object or creation was copyrighted, I was referring to the
duration of copyright. Something created 200 years ago is no longer
automatically protected in the US.

Furthermore, I suppose that I should clarify further still that creations
are not automatically copyright protected in the UK. Were this message to be
copyright protected in the UK, I would have to sign it, date it and provide
the copyright symbol OR write the word "Copyright". Discussion of UK
copyright almost would require a whole new list!

Thank you Mr Haberstich for encouraging me to be absolutely clear on my
museum-l postings!

My best,
Laura
