SUMMER 2011: Reference Internships at the National Anthropological Archives,
Smithsonian Institution

Title: Reference Services Intern

Description:  The Reference Services Intern will assist the Reference
Archivist with research questions, scheduling reference appointments,
providing instruction to researchers, and maintaining the reading room.  As
an integral part of the Reading Room, the Intern’s duties will include
assisting patrons, retrieving boxes, interpreting catalog records and
finding aids, and providing instruction on how to properly handle archival
material.  The intern will have a unique opportunity to work with a number
of diverse researchers.

Who Should Apply: Graduate students in archives, museum, library, history,
and anthropology programs.  Recent graduates [six months or less] from these
programs will also be considered. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is
generally expected of graduate student interns. Students interested in
Native American archives are encouraged to apply.

Stipend Provided: Yes

Dates: May-July 2011 [Flexible]

Location: National Anthropological Archives, Museum Support Center (MSC),
4220 Silver Hill Road, Suitland, MD.  http://www.nmnh.si.edu/naa/. The MSC
is a 15 minute walk from the Suitland Station on the Green Line, or
accessible via free shuttle from the National Mall.
