Recruiting, training, supervising, and motivating volunteers are among the
challenges that will be discussed at the February 22-23 ASTC RAP hosted by
staff at Science North in Sudbury, Ontario.

The title of this weekend intensive is "Building the quality of the visitor
experience through volunteers." It is designed with the needs of staff who
work with volunteers in mind. Participants will explore ways to maximize the
impact of their volunteer corps, resulting in increased visitor
satisfaction, stronger connections to the community, and, potentially,
increased attendance and revenue.

For more information, contact Patricia Clizia, volunteer coordinator at
Science North: 705-522-3701, x225; [log in to unmask] To register,
contact Eileen Kotila: 705-522-3701, x225;

[log in to unmask] Registration deadline is February 1. Fees: ASTC
member - $ 50 US; nonmember - $ 75 US.

"Roundtables for the Advancement of the Professions" (RAPs) help answer the
need for year-round professional development for the science center field.
In short sessions hosted by ASTC-member institutions worldwide, RAPs provide
opportunities for museum professionals, at minimum cost, to network, to
expand their knowledge base, and to identify resources.

For a complete calendar of ASTC RAPs 2002, go to www.astc.org.
