Although the museum I am currently in does not receive any government
funding I can tell you from experience that government funding does not
ensure anything.  In tough economic times governments suffer from the same
problems as everyone else.  They earn less on their investments and collect
less in taxes.  When that happens they cut budgets across the board and then
they cut the budgets of every non essential service.  Guess where museums
fall?
