Greetings,
I am pleased to announce that the National Law Enforcement Museum is hiring a part-time Domestic Violence Prevention Specialist. He/she will have as the focus of his/her work the development of two child-centered, domestic violence- (DV) related programs, as outlined in a Domestic Violence Prevention grant. He/she will also implement child-centered, domestic violence- (DV) related programs for evaluation purposes, in accordance with identified outcomes and benchmarks. This is a contract position ending in June 2011.
Primary Areas of Responsibility:
* Develop two child-centered, DV-related programs that will enable children and their families to deal with conflict situations, teen dating violence, and related issues
* Incorporate activities to enable families to communicate to promote health and safety
* Collaborate with staff to support the successful development and implementation of the DV programs
* Support evaluation processes and use evaluation feedback to revise programs
* Support the process of submitting quarterly grant reports
* Communicate with members of the community to expand the Museum's reach and reputation, and promote the programs among social service agencies, non-profit organizations, educators, museums and law enforcement professionals
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education or related field. Masters degree preferred. Bilingual English-Spanish speaker preferred
* Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence, and its effects on children
* Knowledge of teen-dating violence, and related issues
* Knowledge of child development and ability to develop age-appropriate activities on topics such as recognizing feelings, how to make healthy decisions, and recognizing the attributes of healthy relationships
* Experience applying education and psychological theory to curriculum development for youth
* Knowledge of best practices in the presentation of sensitive content to audiences of youth, specifically children, ages 4-12
* 2-5 years experience teaching and facilitating domestic violence, or violence prevention-related activities with diverse audiences
* Knowledge of education, museum and object-based learning, and informal learning settings
* Understanding of how to apply social service programs and practice to a museum setting
* Strong oral, interpersonal and organizational skills required
* Proficient computer and computer network skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and database management
Working Conditions:
* Working conditions are normal for an office environment
* Limited travel may be required
