For those museum colleagues interested in programming for people with dementia, may I suggest that in addition to checking out like programs at other museums, you also look at community resources, such as day care programs at community agencies or hospitals, talk with area agencies on aging (who may know of such programs), talk with social workers or therapists at local hospitals or rehabilitation centers (who also may know of such programs), talk with the leaders or members of support groups for people with dementia and talk with people at membership or professionals at associations, like the Alzheimer's Association. Talking with people who work with people with dementia will give provide invaluable tips and strategies for making your program successful.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Programming for Visitors with Dementia

  Hi all,

The MFAH is starting a new program that reaches members in the community who are affected by dementia. What we'd like to know is what similar programs look like at other institutions. Please share your thoughts.

  Thanks!!

  -Viola
