   Since September 11, many school districts have changed their field
trip-taking policies. More
    museum educators are being faced with the challenge of adapting
museum-based programming for
    the classroom. How do we meet the needs of our school partners, while
maintaining our program
    goals and meeting our institutional missions?

   To address this challenge NYCMER invites you to:

a practicum for museum educators
Wednesday, October 24, 2001        6:00pm - 7:30pm
at The Museum of the City of New York
Fifth Avenue and 103rd Street

    Rebecca Krucoff, Curator of Education at the Brooklyn Historical
Society, and former NYC
     Museum School teacher, will facilitate this practicum on the issues
facing museum educators
     as they adapt their core programs for use in the schools. Topics for
exploration will include:

                 * Re-examining your program goals
                 * Classroom vs. museum teaching strategies
                 * Reproduction of materials

     Please bring:

   A description of your museum's school programs, your institution's
educational goals, and pictures
   of objects that you use a lot in your teaching

   All museum educators will get a chance to discuss their programs and
their unique concerns

For more information, please contact Rebecca Krucoff at (718) 254-9830 x38
or
Robert Forloney, the Museum of the City of New York, at (212) 534-1672 x250
