I had one of those, but it took place the day after the opening. Does that
still count?

It was an amazing event. The exhibition was entitled "The Art of Combat:
Artists and the Vietnam War" and the event drew together former members of
US Army Combat Artist Teams from the Vietnam War era and added one artist
(local to us) who had been a combat artist in WWII. We reunited one team
(CAT I) in its entirety: they had not seen each other since 1966 and it was
fantastic to see them share how their artistic and personal lives had
progressed since then and how they perceived the ultimate impact of their
combat art experiences. Very emotional. Because the opening had been the
day before, the roundtable was mobbed.

I have found that combining a social opening with an artist talk on the same
day never works. The talk gets short-shrifted in favor of food and wine.
Unless there is difficulty with scheduling, the artist talk takes place the
day before or the day after the opening.

Subject: Round-table as exhibition opening

Greetings all!

I wonder if anyone has organized a round-table discussion in place of the
standard "artist talk" for an exhibition opening event? If so, I would
appreciate hearing your impressions and evaluation.

Private responses are welcome.

Best wishes, sincerely,
