There are many museums that have working machinery--among them are The Henry
Ford in Dearborn, Michigan, Hagley Museum in Delaware, the National Museum
of American History at the Smithsonian and The American Precision Museum in
Windsor, Vermont. All of them keep visitors well away from operating
machinery by means of high barriers, on-site supervision, and siting the
machinery at a distance from visitors.
You might want to contact the curatorial and/or exhibit staff on specifics.
