Museums Week 1998 (16-24 May) is now underway in the UK. A record number
of nearly 1,000 museums are taking part in what is probably the world's
largest museum event.

Museums Week is organised by the Campaign for Museums which was set up in
1995. The Campaign for Museums advocates the virtues and value of museums
and galleries throughout the UK. Its aims are increasing visits,
broadening public support and raising the profile of museums with the
media and opinion-formers.

This year's themes are:
Museums in the Community
Conservation
Hidden Treasures

The Museums Week webpage gives further information, including three
activity packs (in PDF format) for children, teachers and families which
can be downloaded. They are
Art: People and Portraits
Art: Looking at Landscapes
Science: Experiments
