It is hard to tell exactly what type of cannon you have on your hands as you just give material and size. I would guess that it is a 10 pound Parrot rifle. They weigh about 800+ pounds. I would agree that a forklift and proper strapping will work for manuevering the cannon onto a pallet for easier moving. Or with proper strapping and perhaps an escort, the tube can be delivered by forklift as well, depending on distance. The key word is proper, as I had the interesting experience of seeing a reproduction cannon tube fall 3 stories thanks to improper strapping.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Moving a Civil War cannon tube
Hi All:
Has anyone had experience moving a heavy Civil War cannon tube (no carriage, just the tube)? Did you use a “fine arts” mover? Or another moving/rigging company?
The cannon tube is cast iron, about 6’ long, and I estimate that it is over 1000 lbs. KHS needs to move it from our exhibit area to storage about a block away.
