Collections Manager

The Bennington Museum seeks an energetic and self-directed professional
to be responsible for the care and management of the museum's
collections and those items in the museum's possession.  This includes
storage, record-keeping, shipping, and conservation.  The collections
manager (CM) processes outgoing loans from the collection (including
packing, shipping and insurance arrangements) and reviews loan forms and
makes arrangements for all incoming loans.  The CM manages and maintains
all documents relating to the museum collection (including accession,
deaccession, loan forms, condition reports, and rights and reproduction
requests); establishes and monitors procedures and standards for the
handling of art objects; maintains accurate records on objects'
condition and suggests those which are in need of conservation; and
assists in monitoring and maintaining climate, security, and emergency
preparedness. The CM is responsible for the photography of collection
objects (including digital imaging) for documentary purposes.  The CM
will also assist with research, development, and installation of
exhibits.  The CM is integral to the ongoing automation project and
collection inventory.  Reports to the Curator and supervises volunteers
and interns. Requires solid knowledge of registrarial and collections
care practices, exhibition experience, and strong computer and records
management skills, particularly automated museum cataloging programs
(PastPerfect preferred). Prefer M.A. in museum studies or other
appropriate field with at least 2 years experience in the museum field.
Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Salary in the
low-twenties, plus benefits package.  Please submit resume, cover
