Collections Management Opportunity in West Virginia

The West Virginia Division of Culture and History, Historic Preservation
Section, has a vacancy in the collections management field at the
Archaeological Collections Facility in Moundsville, near Wheeling. The
position is classified as Archaeologist I and has a posting number of
CH20040001.

Duties:         Perform daily collections management activities including, but not
limited to, supervising access to archaeological collections for research
purposes, receiving and inspecting incoming archaeological collections,
managing loans, and answering requests for information: conserve and
repackage existing archaeological collection utilizing methods recommended
by consulting conservator (to include artifactual, photographic, and
documentary materials); refine and update existing collections database
including but not limited to revising existing databases to reflect results
of repackaging and inventory, as well as adding additional material; assist
in preparation and completion of curation plan to include both existing and
incoming collections; assist in grants applications; determine ownership of
materials to include documentation of state ownership of collections when
possible, and to pursue the deed of gift process with items or collections
not expressly owned by the State of West Virginia; other duties as assigned
which may include lectures, approved facility tours, and/or conference
attendance. A successful criminal background check may be a requirement of
employment.

Requirements:   Training: Master’s degree from an accredited college or
university in archaeology or anthropology.
Substitution: experience as described below may substitute for the required
master’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
                Experience: one year of experience in archaeological research activities.

Salary:         Pay grade 013   $23,784.00 - $43,992.00
