Hi everyone-
I have done several first time inventories and I always recorded the
following information
Unique object number along with any other number
Exact location or location code
Description including unique information (i.e. serial numbers, damage,
colors, etc)
Condition
Date of inventory
Names of those doing the inventory.

I also have a column were I record when the item was reconciled and by whom
with the database or other system.

You can, of course, record more, but I have found that especially with large
collections you will not have time for more information than that.
Inventory is the process of verifying that the museum's collection is still
there and it is not very practical to try to use it for cataloging
information also. However, with a lot of help you can do more of that. But
recording the information is really the easy part, reconciling it is the
hard part and often the part not done.
Hope this helps
Tracie
